RAY SCHOOL PTO 2002-2003 Accomplishments
- Planned and hosted Newcomers Social for newcomers prior to opening of school (Aug 26).
- Held 5 PTO meetings, alternating between afternoon and evening; provided free child care, and held 7 PTO Board meetings.
- Revised committee and event chairperson guidelines, plan of action/budget forms, and event evaluations (August).
- Co-sponsored Fall Open House before school started; provided school bus tours and information regarding bus routes and schedules; distributed student backpack name/bus tags (Aug 26).
- Hosted Welcome Back Luncheon for the staff the day before school started (Aug 27).
- Provided volunteer bus monitors on first day of school to assist children with ride into and home from school (Aug 28)
- Sent welcome packets to all Ray School families and staff sharing information on the PTO (Aug 30).
- Provided refreshments for Schools Attuned Seminars.
- Held fall PTO Membership Drive for 2002-03 (resulting in 80% of families joining) and spring PTO Membership Drive for 2003-04 (Sept and May).
- Hosted Newcomers’ Coffee for families new to Hanover and/or Ray School (Sept 19/Feb 13).
- Compiled and distributed the Ray School Directory (Oct).
- Sponsored Fall Family Fun Picnic & Dance with the Flames (Sept 27).
- Provided volunteers on School Photo Day (Oct 25).
- Publicized presentation by Marcia Herrin, EdD, MPH, RD on Nutrition, with Marion Cross PTO (Nov).
- Awarded staff and parent recipients of Fall ($938.04) and Spring ($1612.00) Gifts intended to enrich students’ Ray School experience through projects or equipment not funded in the school’s operating budget (Oct and March).
- Coordinated and hosted Room Parent Coffee (Oct 25).
- Wrote and distributed PTO Newsletters to all Ray School families and staff (winter) and spring.
- Organized Family Fun Storytime evening of literacy-based fun; featured staff story tellers and guest readers, organized refreshments and book donations to The Haven (Nov 16).
- Provided staff with note of thanks and treats at Thanksgiving (Nov 26).
- Hosted Holiday Coffee before Students’ Holiday Concert and Clearance Sale (Dec 20).
- Publicized resources to enhance celebration of MLK/NH Civil Rights Day for families (Jan 10).
- Provided Valentine Treats for all staff (Feb 14).
- Sponsored purchase of mini-art prints and books for circulation through the Ray School Library (Feb).
- Publicized Annual Hanover School District Meeting (Mar)
- Funded and created the A.R.T. (Art at Ray Together) Faith Ringold exhibit (Feb) and Picasso exhibit (Apr); trained 5th grade student docents to provide tours of exhibit to other students.
- Co-sponsored with Hanover Recreation Department March Madness Family Fun Night featuring refreshments, games and magician (Mar 14).
- Sponsored Make-A-Plate, 2-day after school art activity for children (Mar 6/7).
- Provided refreshments and information at 2003-04 Kindergarten parents information night (Apr 3)
- Assisted with 2003-04 kindergarten registration and classroom tours; provided refreshments and information; made and distributed Ray K buttons to incoming Kindergartners (Apr 25).
- Sponsored TV Turn Off Week including: distributed informational packet to parents and organized variety of alternative activities for children/parents to try throughout the week (*see below). (April 21-25)

- *Hosted afternoon play date at Montshire Museum for K’s and their parents (Apr 23)
- *Hood Museum offered an evening highlighting the Japanese exhibit (Apr 23)

- *Hosted Ice Cream Social for all participants of Turn off TV Week (May 2).
- Expressed appreciation for office secretaries/administrative assistants by covering their duties and treating them to lunch at Grenache (Apr 23)
- Celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week luncheon buffet for staff (May 6)
- Sponsored Spring Picnic and Dance with the Flames (May 9)
- Hosted Informational Coffee for all current families to become more involved in the PTO. Invited all incoming Ks to join us at the coffee(May 16).
- Hosted coffee for all families to learn more about Dresden Building Project with presentation by Steve Woods (May 19).
- Communicated with incoming 2003-04 Kindergarten families via welcome letter with PTO membership information (April).
- Coordinated and hosted informational meeting for current 5th grade parents regarding transitioning to Richmond middle school (June)
- Compiled and distributed 5 th grade memory book (mid-June)
- Purchased over 200 books for Library in honor of students’ birthdays through Birthday Book Club (throughout the year).
- Connected families new to Ray School and Hanover with host families (throughout the year).
- Sold Ray School logo lunch boxes and frisbees (throughout the year); created and sold (new this year) Ray School t-shirts.
- Updated and maintained Ray School Photo Tree (throughout the year).
- Provided opportunities for families and staff to inexpensively purchase helmets for ski/snowboard and bicycle/skateboard, booster seats and various software packages used at school (throughout the year).
- Maintained resource file in library of interesting parenting/educational articles and PTO documents (throughout the year).
- Developed PTO link from Ray School web page (throughout the year).
- Distributed “Ideas for Parents” newsletter in ongoing effort to educate parents and share language of asset building (throughout the year).
- Shared organizational information with other Upper Valley PTO's upon request.
- Organized monthly Out and About Community Service Projects (Sept –June).
