From The Ray Cafe
1. The cost of lunch has increased by 10 cents. It
will now cost $2.85 for a student lunch.
2. Checks should be made payable to the Hanover School
District.
3. No money will be taken at the lunch
line. If your child needs to pay for a lunch, money/checks
should be placed in the deposit box, outside the Ray Cafe door. A
deposit slip should be attached so that the correct childs
account will be credited.
4. Lunch counts are taken daily by 8:30. If your child
will be late to school and desires a school lunch,
please notify his/her teacher of the lunch choice prior to 8:30 a.m.
If no choice is given and the child needs to purchase a lunch, he/she
will be offered either a bagel or a Sunbutter & Jelly
Sandwich.
Walking Club
Next Tuesday, September 11, the Ray School Walking Club will
start up again. The Walking Club is open to all students, staff, and
parents. We meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, at 7:45, from now
until the Thanksgiving break. We start at the front of the school and
walk around the Ray School "track" (the sidewalks and path around the
front of the school.) Participants may join in at any time, as they
or their buses arrive at school. We attempt to complete three laps
(about 1 mile) before school. There is no sign up or obligation to
come every Tuesday and Thursday. Just join us when you can and add a
few more minutes of fun activity to your day.
Physical Education News
In the next two weeks, students in grades 3, 4, and 5, will begin
to train for the health-related fitness assessments that will take
place the week of October 22nd. As part of that test we will be
practicing the PACER, a shuttle type run in the gym, and running
outside on the Ray School track. Please make sure that children who
use inhalers know when they have PE and where their inhalers are kept
if they need them. As always, if you have questions, please contact
your child's PE teacher and/or the school nurse.
Calendar Change
The calendar for the 2007-2008 School Year, that was printed in The
Ray School Handbook, Veterans Day Holiday should read
school closed Monday, November 12.
PTO News
There will be a coffee to welcome new families to the Ray School on
Thursday, September 20, from 8:15 to 10:00 a.m., in the Staff Lounge.
Everyone is welcome. At 8:30, there will be a half hour presentation
of useful information about the Upper Valley. Please join us to meet
new people and get important questions answered. For more

This year's first parent meeting of the Haven Helpers will be
on Monday, September 10th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ray School library.
Last year (our first full year of the program), we collected more
than 70 bins of food, and 10 bins of clothing and school supplies for
the Upper Valley Haven. This year, we're thrilled to have 24 fifth
graders volunteering as student leaders! We'd love your guidance as
well. Please join us for an hour of cookies and discussion about
helping our students to help those in need.
Last year, the PTO started a weekly email list for PTO and Ray
School events. If you do not receive the email, but you would
like to, please go to the PTO web site (www.rayschool.org/pto) and
click the "Join the PTO Email List" link, and enter your email
address.
Local Activities
The UVMC children's and youth choruses are up and running!
Children's chorus (Grades 1-3) meets on Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:30
and Youth Chorus (grades 4 and up, unchanged voices) meets on Fridays
from 3:45 - 5:15. Both groups meet in the Ray School music room. To

Brownie Girls Scout Troop 209 will continue again this year.
Girls in Grades 1-3 who are interested in joining should contact Kim
Estes at 643-4274 or kimestes@valley.net. Depending on the number of
new girls joining the troop, we may be required to have additional
troop leaders - if interested please let us know. Currently the
leaders are Anne Downey, Chris Hall, and Kim Estes. Registration for
ALL girls, old and new, will be on September 16, at the Howe Library,
from 1:00 to 3:00. Fees are $10 registration and $20 dues for the
year.
Norwich Olde Home Day Pie Baking Contest and Pie Sale will be
held on Saturday, September 8, on the Norwich Green. Pie Entry
9-11:00 a.m. Winning Pie Auction:12:30. Pie Sale to begin as soon as
judging is over. Ribbons will be awarded in two divisions: Adults and
Youth (16 and under). Two pies required for each entry. Pies must be
in an 8-10" aluminum pie pan labeled with type of pie, your name,
address and phone number. All pies must be made from scratch,
including the crust, using no mixes or canned fillings. No cream
pies, pudding pies or whipped cream accepted.
Fall Soccer for children 3-5 years old! Hampshire Cooperative
Nursery School Fall Soccer Program begins September 15th. Sign-up for
either of two five week sessions. The first starts Saturday,
September 15th (9:30-10:15). The second begins Wednesday, September
19th (12:30 - 1:15). Contact Gayle Aspinwall at 643- 1551 or HCNS

The Sleeping Beauty - A magical ballet will be performed by
the dancers of the Lebanon Ballet School. Performances are Saturday,
October 13, at 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 14, at 2:30 p.m.

Razziatazz® in French for Grades 1-3, will be back on
October 2, with a slightly new format!
Classes will meet two days a week, from 7:20 to 8:00 a.m., on
Tuesdays and Thursdays for 8 weeks. Two levels of language
proficiency will be offered. Please do come by the Rassias Foundation
Open House, on Wednesday, September 19. Look to next week's Pink
Sheet for more complete information on the Open House!
The North Country Aquatic Club swim team will be holding its
registration on Monday, September 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the
Dartmouth College Alumni Gym in Hanover. Youth swimmers of all ages
and abilities are welcome to join. A developmental program is
available for new and recreational swimmers. A comprehensive USS
competitive program is available for advanced swimmers. There will be
a parent information meeting from 6:30-7:00. Please call Head Coach

Interested in ice hockey? Come to a free introductory
hockey camp for girls and boys, aged 4 to 10, on September 7, 8,
& 9, at Campion Arena. Already a player? Register
for the season and buy or sell skate and hockey equipment on
September 8, from 9:00 to 1:00 p.m., at Campion. Details at

Kindergarten Singing Friends, will be offered through the
Norwich Recreation Department
for 4 and 5 year old children. This weekly musical class will flow
thematically through the changing seasons. We'll meet downstairs in
the Tracy Hall Multi-purpose room on Tuesdays, from September 11 to
November 13, from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. Register and pick up fall program

Kids Nite Out, hosted by Dartmouth College Womens Cross
Country Team, will be held on Saturday, September 15, from 4:00 to
9:00 p.m. Members of the team will watch your child(ren), in Alumni
Gym, for the evening. The evening will include a G-rated movie,
games, and a healthy snack. Registration forms are in the Ray School

Upcoming programs and events at the Upper Valley Events Center
include: Music Together (for ages birth to K), Beginning and
Intermediate Level Fiddle Classes, Kumon Math & Reading, SAT
Preparation Classes, Math & Science Enrichment Group (for
motivated 5th, 6th and 7th graders), Rock School Music Ensemble
Classes (for individuals and existing bands in a purpose-built
performance hall and sound studio), Kids Spanish (for ages 3-4, 5-6,

2007-2008 HopStop Family Series -
HopStops are FREE, entertaining, hands-on programs
designed to introduce young audiences to the wonders of the
performing arts. These hour-long performances highlight music,
theater, and dance in ways that are interactive, engaging, and
exciting for young children and their families. At each HopStop you
can chat with the performers, meet other Upper Valley families, and
enjoy a family-friendly show in a relaxing environment. HopStops are
offered one Saturday each month throughout the school year in Alumni
Hall, at 11:00 a.m. On Saturday, September 29, Tamasha la
(Celebrate!) African Dance will be the presentation. For more
