Sing-Along News
Sing-Along will begin on Wednesday, September 5, and continue each
Wednesday through early November. We will then take a short break so
the K-2 singers can prepare for their winter concert. More to come
regarding the exact date. Hope to see you for Sing -Along on
Wednesdays, in the Music Room, from 8:40-9:00 a.m.
New This Year...On early release days (November 14
& May 14), there will be no sing-along! This will allow us
to fit in our "regular" music classes on that day. Thanks for
your cooperation with this change. Please consult your school
calendars and make note of this change. Thanks!
Thanks for the Ride!
A huge thank you is sent to all the parents, school staff, and bus
company representatives who helped with the Bus Monitor program this
year. Thanks to their volunteer efforts, our children started the
school year successfully riding the buses. Thank you for your
willingness to ease our children's transition into the bus routine
this year. Christine Hoskin, PTO Bus Monitor Chair
From the Nurses Office
Welcome Back! A few reminders for the beginning of the new
school year.
1. SCREENING PROGRAM - I have scheduled the hearing and
vision screening program beginning the week of September 24, and
ending Thursday, October 4. The success of this program is dependent
upon the support of volunteers to assist with the screening. No
experience is necessary, I'm happy to train willing volunteers.
Please watch for additional notices about where and when to sign
up.
2. MEDICAL EMERGENCY CARDS: Please complete and return
the medical emergency card for your child(ren) as soon as possible.
Information provided on the cards is important for us to have as soon
as possible.
3. MEDICATIONS:
Inhalers: Students may carry and administer their own inhalers. An
asthma plan and parent permission must be filed in the nurse's office
for all students using inhalers. Please call for the appropriate
paperwork if this applies to your child.
Prescriptive or over the counter medications: Please refer to the
medication policy in the student handbook, page 11, before bringing
or sending medications to school.
4. FOOD ALLERGIES: Many classrooms in our school will
be making accommodations for children with food allergies. Children
with food allergies have reactions that can be life threatening.
Please check with your childs classroom teacher before sending
food items in to school to be shared with classmates. Your attention
to this issue and communication with the classroom teachers will help
all of us keep everyone at the Ray School safe.
5. BUSSES: If your child rides a bus and has a medical
concern, it would be valuable to take a moment to communicate that
information to the bus driver.
Dresden School Board Statement
Included in this week's pink sheet is a Statement released by the
Dresden School Board, on Wednesday, August 29. This Board, made up of
members of the Hanover School Board and the Norwich School Board,
serves the interests of all Hanover and Norwich students in grades
7-12. While we recognize the issues do not directly affect the Ray
School, there is a likelihood of additional public forums focused on
academic integrity that may be of interest to Ray School parents.
Youth Activity Information
All program and event notices we send home or include in our
Newsletter are judged to be of educational value for children. We
cannot regularly send home individual flyers from each organization
that serves local children because the amount of material would be
overwhelming. However, we do distribute youth activity information
quarterly, generally on the first Friday in September, December,
March and June. Because many organizations gear up at the beginning
of the school year, we also send materials home in mid-October.
During the interim periods, non-profit and community organizations
may post approved information in the school lobby. We will announce
the availability of information in our Friday Newsletter. (Please
bring material you would like posted to the office for approval prior
to posting.)
If approved in advance for distribution, flyers must be counted in 26
groups of 20 for distribution to classroom teacher mailboxes.
Material approved for distribution must meet the following
criteria:
1. Sponsored by a non-profit community organization.
2. Oriented toward youth.
3. Linked to the educational interests of our school.
4. Consistent with School Board policy.
5. Alcohol-free for all participants.
