Instrumental Concert
A Ray School Instrumental Concert, including Band and String instruments, will be held on Thursday, June 5, at 12:30, in the Music Room.

Last Day of School
The last day of school for this school year is Friday, June 20.  School will be dismissed at 12:00 noon.  Please make a note of this on your calendar.

From the Nurses Office
Reminder to pick up your child’s medications(s) - Medications that have been brought to school for administration should be picked up by Friday afternoon, June 20.  Medications not picked up by the close of school that day will be discarded as medications are not to be stored over the summer.

Requirements for Fall 2008
A.     NEW STUDENTS  -  PRIOR to entry into the public school system all children must provide documentation of the following.
    1.  A completed physical examination form.  This physical must have been completed and     signed by the child’s physician within the 12 months prior to the child’s first entry in to         school.
    2.  A completed immunization record that meets the minimum standard for public school. 
    DTP (DTaP)                4 doses with one after the 4th birthday
    Polio (OPV/IPV)                3 doses with one after the 4th birthday
    MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)    2 doses the first given after the first birthday
    Hepatitis B                    3 doses
    Varicella (chicken pox)            1 dose OR documentation (month/year) of
                                  having had the disease

B.      MEDICATIONS AND RENEWALS  -  Physician’s orders need to be renewed each school year for children who will be keeping and receiving medications at school for routine or emergency administration.   Medications and physician orders must meet the requirements for Medications in Schools PRIOR to administration by any personnel at school.  A copy of these guidelines may be requested from school or can be found in the Ray School Student Handbook, page 12.   

C.     INDIVIDUAL HEALTH CARE PLANS - Students who have special health care needs will have individualized health care plans on file that communicate health care needs to staff.  These plans shall be reviewed, written, or renewed every year by the family, the child’s physician and the school nurse. The plan must include signatures from the physician and the parent(s) granting orders and permission to carry out the plan, including orders for administering medications.  PLEASE schedule your appointments to update these plans and orders over the summer and forward them to the school by August 15, 2008.

Now in its 33rd year, The Christmas Revels is a popular and beloved Upper Valley tradition seen by 5,000 people each December at the Hopkins Center during its four night run. It features a chorus of over 60 community members of all ages, plus professional guest artists, and includes special performances for schools and low-income audiences. Summer Fun with Valley Quest!  Looking for some unique adventures to go on with your family this summer? Try Questing.  Valley Quest is a program designed to get people out and appreciating many of the wonders of the Upper Valley. There are more than 160 Quests or treasure hunts spanning across the 50 towns in the Connecticut River Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire. The Quests consist of hand drawn maps, rhyming clues and a hidden treasure box at the end. Many Quests are available on-line at our website. Please join us for the 'All Comers Football Festival' (also known as Football Night) featuring drills, skills and thrills for players and potential players of all ages!  This year's event will take place on Sunday, June 8th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Richmond Middle School (please note the change in date).  During the Festival, players and parents will have opportunities to:
- meet the Coaches from all program levels (grades 4 through 12) and the Marauder captains and players for the 2008 season
- engage in pass, punt and kick drills led by the Coaches and high school players
- sign up for summer football camps
- learn more about the "Helmet Study*" opportunity for the high school players and meet Dr. Tom McAllister (PI for this study)
- get the Marauder high school game schedule and handbook for 2008
- join the Friends of Hanover Football and much, much more!!

* Briefly, the "Helmet Study" is a research study designed to learn more about the effects of football related head impacts on brain function and is being sponsored by Dartmouth Medical School, in conjunction with Hanover High School, and is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Hanover Area Farmers Market opening day is June 4th, from 3:00-6:00 p.m.  Behind Ben & Jerry's and on the top of the parking garage, you will find all kinds of produce, dairy, meats, breads, pastries and more.  Also Music- Trio from Dr. Burma (with new CD release), Local Restaurant Tent - Carpaccio Italiano Restauranta, and a League of NH Craftsmen Demo - Kids Metal sculpture class.  Come support your local farms and artisans.

Upper Valley Music Center Summer Camps include: Music Discovery Camp - a half day program for children entering Kindergarten,  Music Explorers Camp- directed by the Ray School's Becky Luce for children in First to Third Grades, and Music Makers Camp for students in grades four to six - campers explore and study the strings, wood winds, brass, percussion and musical theater.  The chamber option, for students in grades seven to twelve, lets students be challenged in professionally coached, level-appropriate ensembles, a symphonic orchestra, music history and more.  New this year is a voice option for students with four + years of chorus or voice training.  More information on all of UVMC's summer programming is available at www.uvmusic.org, or by calling 448-1642.

Upper Valley Music Center presents Showcase of Music! on Tuesday, June 3, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lebanon Opera House.  Tickets are available in advance or at the door for $5.00.  Proceeds support music education in the Upper Valley.  For more information contact www.uvmusic.org  or 448-1642.

PENNIES FOR PEACE fundraiser -  Collection has begun and will continue through  the end of the school year.  A donation jar has been placed in the Ray School lobby.  As reported on their website “Pennies for Peace educates American children about the world beyond their experience and shows them that they can make a positive impact on a global scale, one penny at a time. Pennies for Peace encourages American children, ultimately our future leaders, to be active participants in the creation of global peace.” Please contact Alisa Brisson at 643-6363 with questions or concerns.

May 31 -- Saturday  Bird Watching with Hanover Conservation Council from 6:30-9:00 a.m. Meet at Hopkins Center in Hanover and drive to different locations.  Bring binoculars.  

2008 Upper Valley Girls Basketball Camp
July 14-17 (Monday-Thursday)
4:00 to 6:00 pm - Girls entering grades 4-6
5:30 to 7:30 pm - Girls entering grades 7-9
    Join the 2008 Class I State Champion Hanover Marauders Basketball team in their annual basketball skills camp. Campers will learn FUNdamental aspects of the basketball game   specifically including: ball handling, passing, shooting, screening, getting open, one-on-one, two-on-two moves, post moves, footwork, defensive positioning, rebounding, and offensive set-up.
