Fitness Reports
Fourth and fifth grade students will bring home their health-related fitness reports today. We were very pleased with the effort students gave to these tests and we're very thankful to those parent volunteers who helped make the process go so smoothly. Here's a look at how they scored. The percentage of Ray School students who met the healthy fitness standard on the Cooper Institute Fitnessgram health-related fitness tests.

4th grade 5th grade
PACER 100%** 98%
curl ups 96% 97%
push ups 92% 97%
Trunk lift 99% 96%
Sit and Reach 83% 76%

There are no aerobic endurance standards for students until they are 10 years old. Students younger than 10 practice the PACER and mile run to learn how to pace themselves in endurance activities.

Health Notes
I can’t emphasize enough how important good hand washing is in the prevention of disease and illness anytime of the year but especially as we head into the season of colds and flu. Practice, practice, practice.

Guidelines for keeping your child home ill.
Generally speaking, if your child has any of the following symptoms, he/she should be kept home not only for him/her but for the protection of others at school:
* fever - temperature should be normal for 24 hours before returning to school.
* diarrhea or vomiting within the past 24 hours
* severe cold symptoms- cough, runny nose, congestion, sore throat, especially if accompanied by fever or enlarged tonsils/glands
* red, watery, itchy eyes with drainage
* undetermined rash
* persistent headaches or stomach ache
* *Know your child...irritability, lack of energy or disinterest in play, eating or other activities, may be a sign that he/she is coming down with something.

Hunting season has begun here in the twin states. Hanover still has many local areas
that are accessible for hunting. Some of these abut our neighborhoods or recreation areas. The fall season is also a great time for hikes, walks, and outdoor play in and around these hunting grounds. BE SAFE...be familiar with the access to hunting that is allowable in the area you plan your activities. If your plans include activities in huntable areas the best protection is to wear a hat and vest in hunter’s flame orange.

Lost and Found
Found items are on display in the hall outside the Ray Cafe. When you are in the building, please check for items you may be missing. Over Thanksgiving break, items left unclaimed will be donated to a local charity.
