Ray Writers
A new after school writing club will begin this fall for students in grades 3 - 5. Meetings will take place two Mondays a month, from 3:00 - 4:15. We will introduce the club to students, during lunchtime, in the next few weeks. During these lunchtime visits, interested students will have a chance to sign-up. Since Ray Writers is a voluntary club, only students who wish to join will be given a flyer to take home. The flyer includes specifics about the club and a form for parents to sign. Questions? Call Sherrie Greeley (Reading Specialist), Leslie Johnston (Grade 3), Hatsy McGraw (Librarian) or Brendan Scribner (Grade 4).

Earth Friendly Actions!
Did you know that ten seconds of idling your car's engine uses more fuel than restarting your car? Please help us make the Ray School an “Idle-Free” zone. You may have noticed that we added more “No Idling” signs around the Ray School driveway over the summer. Today kindergarteners received a special bookmark as an introduction to our effort to eliminate engine idling at the Ray School. Extra bookmarks and informational pamphlets are available in the front office. Thank you for helping us with this Earth Friendly action!

Local Activities
FLEECE COLLECTION FOR CHILDREN IN NEPAL. As you sort through your children's fall and winter clothing, please take the time to look for fleece jackets and vests to donate to the Children's Project in Nepal. Each year, Leeli Bonney, a Norwich resident, travels to the mountains of Nepal and distributes used fleece jackets and vests to poor children who really need "new" used fleeces to keep warm. From October 1- 12 there will be a bucket in the Ray School foyer for your donations. Please note that we only accept fleece jackets and vests - NO SWEATERS - and we accept sizes toddler through Youth 14. Finally, please make sure any donated item is in good condition, with working zippers and without holes. If you have any questions, please contact Allegra Lubrano at 643-1213.

Hanover Recreation Basketball Parents: It is important that we have an indication of how many teams we will have this winter and how many coaches we will need to recruit. Your registration for Recreation Basketball is critical in determining the number of teams needed for scheduling. Please come by the recreation office to register as soon as you can. Thank you, Hank Tenney

Sibshop of the Upper Valley: The sibshop program provides brothers and sisters of children with special needs an opportunity to...meet other brothers and sisters of children with special needs; have fun; talk to others who know what it's like to have a sibling with a special need; make new friends; learn more about special needs and the services people receive and, have some more fun! It is for 7-12 year old brothers and sisters. Cost is $5 per sibshop (scholarships available). They meet the first Saturday of the month form Oct. through June at the CCBA from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with occasional field trips. LISTEN Holiday Basket Program: Holiday Baskets provide warm clothing, gift items and a food certificate for children and senior citizens. Recipient families fill out a wish list of items and warm clothing requests for their children. Sponsoring families, businesses and religious organizations add these lists to their holiday shopping and fulfill the requests. Donated items are dropped off at Listen and volunteers check and wrap each donation and add items as needed. The completed gift baskets are distributed in mid-December. This program is a personal way for sponsors, donors, and volunteers to help members of their community while protecting the privacy of the recipient and the donor. You can make a difference in the life of an Upper Valley family by participating in the annual Holiday Basket Helper Program. Brochures are available detailing the program from Pam Graham, School Counselor at the Ray School or for more information or questions please contact Kristin Farquharson at Listen 448-4553 or email her at kristin@listencs.org.
